What is Software Localization?
Software localization is more than translating software into different languages. It is making a web application, mobile app or on-premises software product linguistically and culturally appropriate. In addition, the focus is on a user experience that is appealing to the target market, based on the end-user locale (country/region and language). Most software companies naturally grow overseas and to those target markets and end users, receiving a software user experience that looks and feels fully designed for them is a key user adoption factor. Venga Global can help you localize your software into over 100 languages and has over 25 years of deep expertise in software localization.
The Software Localization Services Process
Venga focuses, throughout the software localization services process, on creating the same intended user experience for your application internationally regardless of the device. Learn more about each step in the process below.
Software companies in their growth period don’t typically think about going global. However, efforts need to be made to make software world ready. Internationalization (also known at “i18n”) is important before your software is translated even if you are entering another English-speaking country. All strings are externalized, date and time formats are not hard coded, and proper Unicode encoding is used across the stack are a few internationalization checks Venga runs. Once your software has been assessed we will develop a recommendation for internationalization. Venga can even fix internationalization bugs in parallel to your iterations while allowing your code base to continue evolving and developing. Changes can be merged back into your original code base fairly easily so that you do not end up with two code bases.
Once your software is ready to be localized or if it is already internationalized, then it is time to start planning for translating the user interface (UI) into different languages. Venga was once the in-house localization department at PeopleSoft and then Oracle after the acquisition. Venga knows the software industry from the client side and can help you plan for simultaneous releases and act as an Agile Localization element seamlessly integrated into your sprints and iteration cycles.
Venga will help you localize your software into more than 100 languages. Once the translations are completed it is important to ensure that the layout is not compromised. Text expansion and contraction, corrupted foreign characters, date formatting, number formatting and actual translation all can be aspects that modify the user interface (UI) layout in a target language. In addition, it is important to confirm that your software works in the localized language both from a functional and linguistic standpoint. Venga can help you perform localization testing for both of these aspects of software localization to provide the best user experience for your new global clients.
